Once the client has logged into the MLS portal for the first time, the next time they login they will be greeted with the portal overview page:

  • On the left-hand side a selection of buttons will show together with a list of cases, or a single case where MLS has been used. Click on the case to see the current documents and messages.

  • In the middle of the page you have the breakdown of any messages and documents sent via MLS for a specific case. This detail is shown in the Messages tab at the top of the screen. Other tabs will show Milestones, this would be used to reflect dates specific to the matter. The Attachments tab will show next to the Milestones tab, when at least one document has been sent via MLS.

  • The right-hand side of the page will display sections, namely Company Details, Forms, Case Details, and the Case Handler. These sections can be expanded and collapsed, using the 3 vertical dots.

Forms

If you have sent your client a form via Access Legal Case Management, it will appear for them on the right-hand side within the portal. From here they can fill out any forms which appear and then click the Submit button to send this across to you.

Profile

On the left-hand side, the client will find a Profile button. Here they can amend details such as their password, first name and last name, and mobile number as well as communication preferences.

Messages

The message screen layout on the client portal will show messages from the Fee Earner on the left and messages from the client on the right-hand side.
If an attachment was sent by either party, a red attachment icon denotes that file file is pending and needs to be viewed.

The client can send attachments using the paperclip icon which appears at the bottom left of the messages screen.

Milestones

This section can be used to inform clients of the various stages of work the case is currently at. For example:

  • Date the file was opened.

  • Client Care letter completed.

  • Completion statement.

  • Exchange details and more.

The milestone data shown here is linked to the My Legal Space Milestones screen within the Access Legal Case Management workflow on the matter you are working on.

Attachments

The client can click on the Attachments tab at the top of the screen to view all attachments that have been sent via MLS. It will list all attachments along with the date and time they were sent.

From here the client will be able to view, download, and print any documents as required.
